Origins in the 50s

Motorcycling in Accrington can be traced back to the 1930's when the club was known as Accrington and District Motorcycle Club. They were more of an off-road riding club, mainly motocross and trials riding in quarries .
Right is a photo John Dermody - he was a member in the 1950's. We know he was a member in 1954 as we have a small trophy he won and it's in our club room on the trophy shelf dated 1954. John is the uncle of Marie who is one of our existing members..
Changes in the 70s
The current road riding club can be traced back to the 1970's when the name of Accrington MCC was taken up. The black and white photo to the Left is from 1972 taken on the old Broadway car park, now where the Arndale Centre stands today.
Present members (Chairman) Mick Priestley (on 4th bike from right Ariel Square 4 1000cc) also Fred Parkinson on an Ariel Huntsmaster 650cc the 2nd bike from right.
Other names here include:
Les Battle, Bill Courtney, "Grid" Roy Grinrod, Jean Grinrod, Bill Scott, Steve Rowlands and Geoff Ashworth who could often be seen riding around back then.
The club disbanded around 1996 and reformed in 1998.
The club logo that we wear as our badge is an inverted copy of an original drawing which still hangs on the wall at The Hope And Anchor Pub.
It was changed from black on white to accommodate our use on black leathers and t-shirts and remains unchanged to this day.
